Well, I haven't posted anything in awhile! Spring is here, and I still haven't had the chance to ride my horse due to being busy with homework. That will change very shortly though!

All of these schools below are in Cite Soleil. Haiti is the poorest country in the Western hemisphere, and Cite Soleil is the poorest and most dangerous slum in the hemisphere. We are not even able to start describing the poverty. One of the things that amazed me the most was how happy these children are. It was said that only 1 in 100 children in Cite Soleil eat every day, yet these children were so grateful, so happy.

This school was by far the worst we saw. It only had 3 walls, and the door was hardly a door. The church that was near by was in worse condition. The roof was scrape metal, and when it rains they have to cancel church since the rain comes right through.

These are all the organizations that we work with/ have partnerships with in Haiti.

The teachers and principals go through hygiene training before filters are installed in their schools. We were able to sit in on a training session.

This is where the sand for the filters is washed and then dried/ cleaned in the sun.

This was the only place that we stayed at that had warm water. We only stayed here one night as we were a ways from Port au Prince, so it was our only chance to take a hot shower. I think some of us took two......

Palace Sans Souci and the Citadel were both built by Henri Christophe. Christophe declared himself President and later declared himself King of Haiti.

The Citadel was built in the 1800's after the Haitians drove the French out of Haiti. Since the French stayed in the DR, the Haitians were afraid that they would come back so they built this citadel.

The views both inside and out were amazing. In the 80's this was a major tourist attractions with around 9,000 people coming every week. Now they get maybe two to three small groups a week.

My friend and I made the outline of a full size dressage ring on the top of the hill behind our horses. When she rides the freestyle(dressage movements set to music), she needs to practice in a full size ring, hence the need to make one. In order to have music up there though, I need to drive my Jeep up the 4 wheeler/ tractor path. This isn't too bad, but I hate the sounds of the berry bushes scraping the sides of my red Jeep.

The views are really nice up there though, as you can see the valley from North to South.

I am still trying to get used to taking videos with my phone. I can't remember what way it needs to be so that the video is not upside down. Not one of my top priorities though.....

I have just finished house/ dog sitting for my boss and her husband. It was the second time in the past two months that I have stayed there for ten days or more. This time was by far the worse. The dogs ( especially the puppy) got into trouble almost everyday. From eating the hostas in the garden, to jumping on the counter and getting into everything. Then this past weekend, Carolyn's car would not start. So needless to say, I was very glad when they came home.

Anyways, this is how my mornings usually started. They really get excited when they know you are going to get out of bed and feed them.

This past weekend, some friends and I attended a schooling show held over in Woodstock. The weekend didn't start out very good especially considering that it was cold and raining. When we arrived in at the show grounds, we discovered that we had forgotten to bring hay. I then had to go to my friend Beth, who happens to live about 2 minutes away to "beg" for some hay. When she came to the door she excitedly told me that she was on the phone with Kelly. I was able to talk briefly with Kelly, and Beth was gracious enough to give me hay, as long as I brought some over for her on Sunday. The show was okay. It isn't any fun for the horses or the riders to be out in the cold and rain. There were some horses who decided to show their naughty side, and Saylor was one of them. Hopefully in June at the next show, it will be sunny and warm!!!

I left work early on Wednesday to go to my appointment at my eye doctors. I usually wait till I can tell that I need a new prescription to make an appointment. Anyways, I went my appointment, and yes I did need a new prescription. He had me put in a new pair of contacts to see if they would be the right strength. The contacts were the right strength, and he let me keep them!! A free pair of contacts is always greatly appreciated. Then I paid for the appointment...............

Anyways, I returned to work to get ready for my Access class. As I was sitting at my desk, I happened to look out the window, and I was amazed at how fast the buds on the trees had opened just since that morning. It was simply amazing!!!

Then I remembered, I had new contacts.........

Well, tomorrow is the day of the piano recital. My job is done, and it is up to the kids to play the best they can. When you are the student, you are only nervous for your self; The teacher is nervous for everybody. And I HATE public speaking!!!!! I used to write a speech, but this year, I haven't had time to really even think of what to say. Oh well.....and then one of my students said she knows my face gets red when I speak in public, because she has seen it happen before! Thanks! I was only trying to calm her nerves by telling her I was nervous as well!! But to top it all off, one of my students stopped taking lessons with me this week, and started piano lessons with someone else. I think I'm over that now though. Anyways, I know all the kids will do well, and I am looking forward to hearing them play.

The reason for our trip to NYC, was to attend the launch of the Tap Project. This project is to have participating restaurants around the country, ask those who order tap water, if they would be willing to donate a dollar for every glass they drink while dining.The funds then go to help people in developing countries who are in need of clean, safe drinking water. This project continues through Saturday which is World Water Day.

The event, called the Tap Launch, was hosted by Esquire magazine. Carolyn and I were picked up outside of the club we were staying at by the UNICEF employee who invited us. The three of us then took the cab to the Hearst Tower, where the event was being held on the 44Th floor. It was amazing to be that high up, and to be able to look over the city.

I was able to meet Lucy Liu, who is a UNICEF Ambassador, the Editor-in-Chief of Esquire Magazine, the director of UNICEF, and also one of the most prominent chefs in NYC, who is also an UNICEF Ambassador. The event was very much NYC style. There was nothing Vermont like about it. I was nervous prior to the event, but Carolyn gave me some good advice, and I know it helped me.

While we were not able to promote Pure Water for the World very much, we were able to spend quite a deal of time with the women from UNICEF who invited us. We spent much of the time at the event with her, and afterwards we had supper together, which was a blast. So if anybody learned more about Pure Water, it was her. Hopefully we will be able to work together in the future.

I am learning so much about the water situation in developing countries. Even though this event was a lot of glitz, there was a number of things that I learned that I had never thought about before. Children in developing countries are not able to attend school because they need to travel great distances to gather water. The children then suffer a great deal of sickness caused by drinking this contaminated water. 4,500 children die every day from diseases caused by drinking unsafe water. What I had not thought of before was that these children have to walk all that way, and for the most part the country is not safe for these children to do so. I wouldn't let my brothers or sisters walk down the road alone,and the problems we have in this country, are in these other countries as well. So not only are the children gathering contaminated water, they are not safe while they travel to get it. I am amazed at how blessed we are in this country.

I was very grateful to be able to attend this event, and also to visit NYC for the first time.

It was informational, and fun as well. Definitely something I wouldn't mind doing again......

Sometimes I have to laugh when I think about the places I've worked. They have nothing in common. There was the greenhouse and florist, then Hope Cafe. Now administrative assistant to the Executive director of a non-profit organization. There was the personnal assistant job before my current job, but I like this job much better. Oh yeah, and piano teacher........
I probably won't have another job where there are three dogs. My boss has two and Manny is a friends dog that spend a great deal of time with us. Cally(aka Calypso) is almost 4 months old and as cute as can be. Every morning when I arrive, she gets so excited. Then when she comes in from outside she runs over to my chair and procedes to place her wet paws on my lap. If Manny gets to my chair first, Cally will run over and push her out of the way.
Then there is Jackson. He is older,so he is more laid back,but every morning,he comes to the door with his mouth full of toys. Most of his day is spent sleeping.

I've also never had a job where before I left for the day, I had to say who I thought would win the Florida primmary. It might be different,but I'm enjoying it.....and I probably will not have another job quite like this one............

My cousin had her baby shower yesterday, and Hannah was asked to bring the gifts to Rhiana as she opened them.At the beginning she was really good, then about half way through she became tired and started yawning. She was so cute sitting up there!!!!!
I forgot my camera at home, and my Mom's camera had no battery life left, so I had to resort to the cell phone. Not the best,but it works in a pinch.

This year we decided to trek into the woods to find a Christmas tree. After we decided on one,and then cut it down,it was incredibly larger than thought. That tree was huge!!!!! We ended up having to buy two more strands of lights.

My Aunt was married today,and she had asked me 2 weeks ago to make her cake. So this is what I did Friday and Saturday.........
My Aunt wanted her wedding cake to be chocolate on chocolate,which was amazingly easy.

I have seen enough cake for a while. I might even be seeing cake in my sleep!
There were some tense moments,but we made it,and my aunt was happy......that is what matters.......

My Aunt was given a peanut grinder for some reason. I guess she noticed it somewhere and the people told her she could have it. So my Mom and Aunt Renita decided to take advantage of the opportunity and get together to make peanut butter.
It was a very simple process,and there wasn't anything for me to do,so I was the photographer.........
This grinder was pretty impressive. It didn't take very long for it to grind 30 pounds of peanuts.

Yesterday my Jeep had a ton of work done on it. My Dad and Nathanael fixed the exhaust system,and then they replaced the tires.
My Dad says that Nathanael did most of the work which I believe because he was filthy!!
One of the joys of having younger brothers is that they can change the oil and do other mechanical jobs. My Dad showed me how to change the oil,but it is soooo much easier to send Nathanael out there. Thanks buddy!!!!!!

When it starts to get chilly,and there are sightings of snowflakes, people start thinking of Christmas. And when you play an instrument that means playing Christmas music. When you are the teacher though, 8 weeks of Christmas music is torturous to think of. So this year my students are not allowed to start playing carols till I let them. I really don't care if they play them at home, but don't start playing them for me at the beginning of November. There will be plenty of time after Thanksgiving, and for a music teacher that is LONG enough!!!!

On Friday, Kelly and Daniel moved into a cute little house in Brandon. That morning Kelly,her sister Kacie,and I went and did a lot of major cleaning in the new house before Daniel came with all of their belongings. It was quite a job,especially since they are just house sitting,and the actual owners still have a lot of their belongings in the house. Anyways, I brought my camera but the only pictures I took were of Micaiah.He was very happy when everything was clean,and he was free to roam.

Joe's Crab Shack, Illinois style, was good but it wasn't the same. Maybe it was missing the ocean view.

Of course the highlight, and reason for our trip, was spending time with Andrew.
The graduation ceremony was very good and touching. It was good to just spend time with him and we did a lot of fun things while we were out there.

I'm not sure of the name,but this is Notre Dame's stadium. We were actually on the campus of Notre Dame which was exciting.

I talked to my brother Andrew for the first time in over a month. It was great to hear his voice and it sounds like he is doing well. We get to see him in about three weeks. Can't wait!!!!

Nathanael celebrated his 16th birthday at Camp Maranatha,and everybody did their best to make a memorable birthday.

On my first day off Sarah took Jessica and I to Oceanside,and we had a great time at the beach. It was hot,but who cares when your at the beach!!!

Jack enjoyed the beach.......
but Lucy didn't want her picture taken.
This is Oceanside from the highway. We also ate at Joe's Crab Shack and I had coconut shrimp for the first time and I loved it!!

Hello from CA.......

Nathanael and I arrived safely in California.LA was a little hectic but not bad,and we were glad to see familiar faces. We have both adapted to the different time change, altitude,and weather. Although Nathanael had it easier since he didn't get the cold that I got.

Yesterday was my first day off,and I went to the beach with Jessica,Sarah and the kids. Oceanside was beautiful,and I had coconut shrimp for the first time at Joe's Crab Shack.Very good........It was a wonderful experience with the exception of a very nasty sunburn,but I'll get over that...... Well I need to think about heading back to the camp now to help cook for 215 campers. Miss everybody,and I hope all is going well. Till next time.........

My One Eyed Saylor

Due to a freak accident, Saylor had to have emergency surgery to remove his eye Friday night. Now he is having to learn how to move around with the use of only one eye,and we have to learn how to work carefully around his blind side. And I am learning how to give shots,Saylor's favorite part of that is the sugar cubes he gets after he endures the shots.
Now he is referred to as : Pirate, One eyed Saylor, One eyed Bandit, and Popeye the sailor man........I don't really care what people call him, he came through it like a champ and is now enjoying VIP status.........

I love it that so many people are trying to find jobs for me. It is very entertaining,but tiring having to answer soooooo many questions like: What do you want to do? Are you interested in anything? How about this job? Do you have any skills??????

So now I have so many options. I could be...... plumbers assistant, baker, substitute teacher, music teacher, and many more....

And then there are the real job offers. I have been asked to go back to gardening with my old boss. I will have to decline that one. Then I have an interview with a lady who needs an personal assistant. I'm not quite sure if she needs a assistant or nanny or both. What would a person who is both be called? Not quite sure........

But California is looking good right now,or if needs be Florida.........

This past week I have received two bouquets of wildflowers and a handmade pair of earrings from my piano students. I don't know why they shower such kindness on me, but I love being their teacher.........
